University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saxophone Studio
As saxophonists and music educators, students will develop a thorough knowledge and competency of saxophone repertoire and pedagogy – which will serve as the foundation for their artistry. It is expected that each student, through lessons, performances, studio class, ensembles, and assignments, strives to reach their full musical potential.

Practice must be consistent and efficient, and the student is expected to spend a minimum of 2.5 to 3 hours a day in the practice room. All students enrolled in lessons must participate in a major, conducted ensemble, such as the UMHB Wind Ensemble or Cru Spirit Band, unless waived for approved reasons.
Lesson books to be chosen from:

A student is required to present a jury examination each semester in which he/she is enrolled for applied instruction. The semester grade is assigned by the instructor and is composed of two parts: the instructor’s studio grade and the jury panel’s grade. If the teacher’s studio grade is below 70% the student will not be allowed to present a jury, and the semester grade will automatically be an “F.” For BM in Vocal Performance majors, if the teacher’s studio grade is below 80% the student will not be allowed to present a jury, and the semester grade will automatically be an “F.”
In a semester in which a recital is performed, the recital hearing may serve as the jury examination.
A minimum of three faculty must adjudicate juries and recital hearings.
